| Q. Why does the target fall out of the clay when released from the trap?
A. If the target is not placed dead centre in the clay it is likely to come away when released from the trap. Make sure the adhesive backing has maximum contact with the clay by placing it dead centre. Q. Why does it not ignite when I hit the clay? A. The Firebird will only ignite if it is actually hit. If you hit the clay but not the Firebird it will not ignite. Q. Can I shoot the Firebird from any angle. A. For the Firebird to function, the pellet must first penetrate through the orange lid and then pinch the pyrotechnic composition inside against the back wall of the metal container. The most effective way of achieving this is by using the Firebird as either a driven bird or a crossing bird. It will be far harder to hit the Firebird if used for instance as a going away bird. Q. What will happen to the Firebird if it is missed and falls to the ground unblemished? A. If possible, collect the target and reuse. However, you may wish to consider replacing the clay as one that has already been used might have been weakened and break when coming out of the trap. Q. If left out does Firebird present any danger to the environment? A. We would obviously recommend that wherever possible any shot or un-shot Firebirds are collected at the end of any shooting session however the Firebird is constructed from materials which present little or no threat to the environment. When exposed to moisture, the container will rapidly start to rust and the contents will start to degrade. Q. What happens if they get wet? A. As with any pyrotechnic device, The Firebird needs to remain as dry as possible however they have been tested and proved to work in a damp environment so long as moisture does not penetrate the orange cardboard lid into the pyrotechnic composition. If dampness is suspected, store in a warm dry place over night (Maximum 35 degrees Celsius). Q. What happens if I drop one? A. Tests carried out have demonstrated that it is highly unlikely for a Firebird to ignite if dropped, however the user should remember that it is a pyrotechnic device and should be treated with care and caution. Q. Why didn’t the target ignite when hit with a pellet? A. For the Firebird to function, the pellet must penetrate through the orange disc and pinch the pyrotechnic composition inside against the back wall of the metal container. If the orange lid is merely grazed, the Firebird is unlikely to function. Q Why do some targets give a larger effect than others? A. It will depend on the amount of shot that makes contact and at what distance and velocity. In short terms, the harder the Firebird is hit, the more spectacular the effect. Q. What is the maximum range that Firebird will work at? A. Firebird has been tested with number 6 shot at up to 35 yards however the visual effect will be appreciated far more by shooters and spectators alike if used at a range of 15 – 20 yards. Q. What is the ideal shot size for use with Firebird. A. It must be remembered that Firebird operates on the principle of impact energy. Therefor if a small shot size for example Number 9, is being used then the effective range will be reduced. As a guide, Number 7 shot gives an effective range of 30 yards. |
